Pipe weight with its water content

Mass per metre and total mass of a pipe and the fluid inside it, from outside diameter, wall thickness and densities. Used for support and hanger loads.

Method

Circular pipe-wall and fluid-content mass from supplied geometry and densities.

Equations

d = D − 2 · s
mp = π4 · ρp · ((D1000)2 − (d1000)2)
mf = π4 · ρf · (d1000)2
m = mp + mf
Mp = mp · L
Mf = mf · L
M = m · L

Assumptions and limits

  • Densities and length are explicit inputs.

In practice

  • Insulation, cladding and valves are not included; add them to the support load separately.

Worked example

The input values are the calculator's own verification test, run through the calculator. They show the working; they are not design values.
